Audubon Blue Heron Donor Wall

This public art sculpture is located in the Seattle Audubon Center near Lake Washington.  Blue Heron are often in view along the lake shore. The sculpture was designed for a high traffic area where it would welcome visitors entering the building. Durability was important, as was choosing an iconic symbol for the center. The heron sculpture was first modeled in clay, cast in 1” thick clear glass, then polished. A stainless steel frame holds the sculpture and sandblasted glass donor tiles. Several room plaques were also made using texture from native plants.  The project required close coordination with the contractor, the metal fabricator and the sandblaster to execute my design.
