These glass butterflies are located in a Women’s and Children’s Hospital.  They form the main focal-point in a lobby waiting area, and are designed to provide a colorful distraction for mothers and their kids.  Local butterfly species were chosen to provide a welcoming theme.  The butterflies are screen printed with vitreous enamels and are mounted on aluminum standoffs so they appear to float upwards on the wall.  The standoffs hold them away from the wall, allowing colorful shadows to project through the transparent glass.
